Welcome to the New Year! The Astrological New Year, that is. For centuries, astrologers have celebrated the birth of the year when the Sun reaches 0⁰ of Aries, an important passage whereby the Sun crosses from the southern hemisphere to the north and gives us a new season and a new world emphasis, the official start of spring in the northern hemisphere.
Charts are erected for this Equinox point to indicate the important themes of the year ahead at any particular location in the world.
The chart for this event is cast for Washington DC and appears here:
Of particular note in any chart is the four angles and planet near those angles are in angular houses. Worthwhile emphasis is given to the MC/IC axis as symbols pointing to the roots or home (IC) and the branches (MC). With 20⁰ Leo on the IC, we can note that further into 2026 there will be a total solar eclipse at this degree. Although not visible in the US, it will be felt, and certainly will impact the country and the world as it falls on this point.
I have always found the Geodetic Zodiac helpful in analyzing world events at any given time. Simply put, the Geodetic Zodiac is derived from taking all 360 degrees of the celestial zodiac and overlaying them on the 360 degrees of the terrestrial longitudes of the earth. The starting point for 0⁰ Aries is equivalent to 0⁰ longitude which occurs at Greenwich, England. From that point eastward begins Aries and wraps around the globe until you come back to 29⁰ Pisces. In addition to each location having a MC degree, there is also an ASC degree. That makes each city of the world unique, with its own geo signature.
With that in mind, here is the same chart, cast for Washington DC, using the Geo zodiac.
Seven planets—including dwarf planets and asteroids—form a stellium in Aries, straddling the U.S. geodetic Ascendant (23° Aries for Washington, DC). Particularly notable is the Moon at 20° Aries, which within hours of the Equinox settles over Washington, intensifying an already highly charged configuration. Stelliums are always significant, and this one in Aries suggests an atmosphere bursting with forceful, assertive, and grandiose energy. Also, within hours, that same Moon joins Chiron, a wounded warrior energy and Eris, a disrupter energy, which have been sitting over Washington DC for a much longer period.
Another major concern for 2026 is the conjunction of Sedna and Uranus. By late April, Uranus moves from Taurus into Gemini, joining Sedna at the first degree of that sign. Sedna is associated with the living consciousness of the ocean and life beneath the surface, while Uranus acts like a lightning strike, linked with sudden events, technology, missiles, and explosives. At a time when global warming already threatens the oceans, this alignment may also point to dangers connected with continued oil drilling and dependence on petroleum-based economies.
The current Middle East conflict highlights this symbolism, with missiles aimed at the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf—a critical waterway for the transport of oil to the world. In Tehran’s geodetic chart, Uranus occupies the 10th house and approaches Sedna. The conflict began under a Mars–Uranus square, activating all four angles of the chart. The Persian Gulf has long been an epicenter of oil production, fueling global economies while also making the region a focal point of tension.
Uranus has an 84-year cycle. The last time it moved from Taurus into Gemini was in the 1930s and early 1940s, as World War II unfolded. Astrologically, this repetition has often coincided with periods of intensified conflict. Whether or not this era becomes a world war, it already reflects a fierce battle of ideologies, political division, and psychological strain on a global scale.
Tehran’s geodetic angles fall in late degrees of fixed signs; a pattern shared across much of the Middle East. With fixed signs tied to territory, resources, and endurance, it is not surprising that this region has repeatedly become the stage for conflicts over land, power, and oil.
We might imagine two possible scenarios. One is that the war continues and the oil economy continues with it—a discouraging outcome in the face of the global environmental crisis.
The other possibility is that Uranus, now at the very end of Taurus, has the force to disrupt the world economy in profound ways, as we are already seeing with blocked shipping lanes that carry much of the world’s oil. Consider also the recent volatility of cryptocurrency, often seen as the financial signature of the Uranus-in-Taurus period of the past seven years. After soaring to unprecedented highs only months ago, it has dropped sharply in recent weeks. If unpredictability is the theme, Uranus delivers it.
With Uranus in the final degrees of Taurus, its disruptive power not only shakes the oil economy but also moves toward conjunction with Sedna. We might imagine the intelligence of the undersea goddess joining with Uranus in air, bringing sudden insight and innovative solutions to humanity’s dependence on oil—new ways to fuel, transport, and sustain ourselves more cleanly and safely.
Food for thought.
As for me, I intend to hold that possibility in mind. I hope you will hold it with me!

So interesting, Arielle, to see the chaos of what’s happening out in the world, laid on the astrological map!
But I’m with you holding onto the creative possibilities of new ways of being and behaving!
I love receiving your newsletters, Ariel.
HI Arielle,
This is very interesting and I hope for the second choice as well, But I am concerned that the first one will occur. I am sending prayers. Meanwhile, on another note, I had emailed you but I don’t think you received it. I am wondering about Florida as a second home or winter escape I am. looking into the Naples and Sarasota area on the west coast, but I am open to other suggestions l. Your calendar looks busy. But if you have the time for a location reading let me know.
Warmly Karyne
Well, thank you as always for your thoughtful and wise insights. I think our global
Economy will be disturbed, the oil economy will continue to make grabs- too much at stake, and there an alternative revolution happening mostly outside the USA
