The Royal Wedding

THE ROYAL WEDDING

By Arielle Guttman©

April 15, 2011

The most anticipated wedding of the century is a mere two weeks away. What do the stars have to say about this event, and even more importantly, what do the stars say about the bride and groom?

The wedding occurs while the Moon is in its last few degrees of Pisces, positioned at the top of the sky on the geodetic midheaven of London, insuring that the world will be glued to the union with unprecedented emotional connection and millions of projections of a fairy-tale come true.

The Royal Wedding

Saturn, a hemispheric singleton, stands in Libra in opposition to five planets in Aries. It is the handle of a bucket, a handle that bears the weight of the numerous planets it carries. Saturn in Libra’s role points to duty and responsibility that the partnership has to each other and to the public. But what of all of the Aries planets in opposition?  Duty and protocol will be fulfilled in a most individualized and highly stylized manner, with innovation and pizzazz, as well as occasional rebellion and resistance.

Matching the wedding chart’s Saturn in Libra are Kate and William’s own Saturn in Libra. This punctuates their first Saturn return, when individuals are ready to step up to adult responsibility, leaving their reckless youth at the door.

Kate and William share many planets domiciled in the same sign,  including the Moon in Cancer. But most importantly and quite remarkably is that they were both born on the day of an eclipse, an astrological birth mark that insures a person will live no ordinary life. In fact, whether the eclipse is lunar (as in Kate’s birth) or solar (as is William’s) we have the astro-mythology of a union between the Sun King and the Moon Queen. Kate, as the newly crowned lunar goddess, fits into William’s family quite well. Her Moon in Cancer sits along side of Diana’s Sun in Cancer; Kate’s Sun in Capricorn sits alongside of the Queen’s Capricorn Ascendant and her Moon in Cancer sits with Charles’ Venus Star Point in Cancer. So many Cancerian energies point out that Kate is not merely marrying William; she is marrying a strong family dynasty.

Prince William’s bride and mother share the same Aries Star Point.* Kate may emulate Diana’s inimitable style as an Aries Star princess, but there is a crucial difference. Diana’s Cancer Sun was shy, sensitive and reactive to an environment that all but swallowed her. Kate’s Capricorn Sun has an intuitive feel for handling palace tradition and protocol, and keeping her boundaries in tact.

What does the Aries Venus Star reveal about these two charismatic women? That they possess an aura of strong individuality, that they forge ahead into uncharted territory before they know what they are getting into, that they possess a star quality of glamour, setting the pace in the world of fashion and personal style; that they are passionately committed to and vocal about causes, political activism and doing things their own way. Aries is a headstrong sign and with her Capricorn Sun backing her up, don’t expect Kate to cave in easily to others’ demands. And, she won’t be as people-pleasing either; quite the contrary, which will give much fuel to the paparazzi. Kate is not the first Aries Star woman to marry into a dynasty; she follows in the footsteps of other Aries Star women such as Jacqueline Beauvoir Kennedy, Grace Kelley (Princess Grace of Monaco), and Princess Diana of Wales.

On the Venus Star of relationship connections, William’s star in Aquarius complements Kate’s Aries Star. Venus Star Rising has this to say about such a combination:

“Aries and Aquarius share the quality of extroversion, as well as a dazzling, self-confident and stylish mannerism, that makes others want to be like them or be with them. As a result, they are likely to attract the attention and following of others…”

A few other couples with this combination include:

Tony Blair              Aries Star Point       Cherie Booth               Aquarius Star Point

Steffi Graf              Aries Star Point       Andre Agassi               Aquarius Star Point

Linda McCartney  Aries Star Point        Paul McCartney            Aquarius Star Point

Bjorn Ulvaeus       Aries Star Point       Agnetha Faltskog        Aquarius Star Point

William’s Venus Star is in close proximity with Kate’s natal Venus and Mercury in Aquarius. Venus gives them the physical and sensual, romantic attraction to one another, while Mercury brings a passionate response to Kate’s communication style, her opinions, thoughts and observations about everyday life.

And now for some pure speculation on my part. Kate and William’s composite Moon in Cancer is located on the exact degree as Diana’s Sun. Will their first-born be Diana’s spirit reborn? Only time will tell.

*Note: The Venus Star Point is a unique point in a person’s chart based on the five-pointed star of Venus. It is not to be confused with a person’s natal Venus placement nor (sun) sign. And now on to Libya…

The Natal/Geodetic Chart for Libya

Libya Geodetic Chart

Libya Geodetic Chart

Uranus Strikes Again!

Uranus is just about to enter Aries, where it will stay for the next seven years, and before it even gets there, it is affecting countries all around the globe. This next case in point is Libya, where its natal Uranus sits at 2 Libra (see above chart). Uranus is now within orb of an opposition to its natal position, a time of tremendous upheaval which demands of an organism or an entity that careful attention be paid to dismantling and re-configuring any pattern that keeps itself from its necessary evolutionary process. This opposition will last from spring 2011 until spring 2012.

Geodetics for Libya

Note the geodetics (house positions based on geographic locality) for Libya whose north/south primary axis is 13 Aries/Libra, the zodiacal location where the current Jupiter/Saturn opposition will complete at the end of March 2011. Jupiter transits the MH while Saturn transits the IC. Typically Saturn on the lowest point of the horoscope indicates a significant withdrawal of external power in favor of focusing on affairs of an internal nature. The opposition pits the people against the ruler and even more significantly, the ruler against the people.

Mars in Aquarius

Since Mars entered Aquarius on January 15, 2011 people all over the globe have been mobilized to gather en masse to make their voice be heard. Peaceful protest has been the norm, with Mars favorably aspecting both Jupiter in Aries by sextile and Saturn in Libra by trine. Flanked by five other planets passing through the sign of humanitarian concerns, giving fuel to Mars’ fire is the Sun, Mercury, Ceres, Chiron and Neptune. Mars stays in a sign for only six weeks, entering Pisces on February 24, but what a six week transit it has been, with the events first in Tunisia, followed by Egypt, Bahrain, Libya and Wisconsin (!) clamoring for social justice and reform.

What happens when Mars enters Pisces? Will the revolution fizzle out? Certainly, Mars in Pisces seems less like a revolutionary and more like a peace-maker, but there is a fervently backed religious component to Mars in Pisces that gives power to shared ideology. This is especially true of the current time, with Mars passing over Neptune and the Sun in late degrees of Aquarius, then immediately entering Pisces where it will rendezvous with Chiron. There is a unified brotherhood that believes that what they are doing is sanctioned by the holy. But they might all just as well believe that, and the Holy War of the 21st century may be the brotherhood of people who rally against repressive leadership.

The chart for Libya shows its natal Sun to be in Virgo and its natal Moon in Gemini. As Mars passes through Pisces, it incites both luminaries from the last part of February through the middle of March.

Chart of Moammar Gadhafi

Gadhafi Geodetic Chart

Gadhafi Geodetic Chart

With a birth date of June 7, 1942 but an unknown birth time, his chart (above) is placed around the geodetic house positions of Tripoli, Libya. Not surprising is his natal Mars precisely on the Ascendant with Pluto not far behind. He began his reign as a military coup and has imposed martial style rule for the forty-two years he has been self proclaimed head of state to his people. This is portrayed in numerous ways but most prominently by Gadhafi’s Saturn (law) precisely conjunct the Moon (people) of Libya.

Forty-two years is the amount of time that its leader Gadhafi has been in power. Forty-two years is also the time when both Jupiter makes an opposition to Libya’s natal position and Saturn makes an opposition to its natal position. The Jupiter opposition is happening now: spring 2011. The Saturn opposition will occur in late 2012. And, in the meantime transiting Jupiter will be making a conjunction to natal Saturn.

We certainly haven’t heard the last of the stand-off in Libya yet. These next few months will be crucial in determining the fate of this country. Like Bahrain (see previous post) Neptune’s ingress to Pisces will slowly begin to erode at both Gadhafi’s Saturn and Libya’s Moon, in what most surely will be a major tremor of uncertainty followed by healing for the people of this nation.

BAHRAIN AND EGYPT

The Planets over the Middle East

February 19 2011

Bahrain’s chart is being hit by almost all of the outer planets currently (2011)-Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Chiron.

Primary transits to consider to Bahrain’s natal are:

  • Jupiter transit in Aries to Bahrain’s Uranus/Chiron opposition
  • Saturn transit in Libra to Bahrain’s Uranus/Chiron opposition
  • Uranus transit in Aries to Bahrain’s Neptune
  • Neptune transit in Pisces to Bahrain’s Neptune/Moon/Saturn
  • Chiron transit in Pisces to Bahrain’s Neptune/Moon/Saturn

Bahrain’s natal chart is rather amazing:

Moon/Saturn conjunction opposition Neptune/Jupiter (how’s that for an large, wealthy, oil-ruling family)

Large & Wealthy==Jupiter

Oil==Neptune

Family==Moon

Ruling==Saturn

Egypt’s peaceful demonstration began on January 25 when Saturn was stationary retrograde, indicating an almost certain turn-of-events and something quite significant for its ruler, Hosni Mubarak.  This event was punctuated by a Mars/Sun/Ceres conjunction in Aquarius, trining Saturn. This triple conjunction in Aquarius was passing through the geodetic borders of Egypt for several weeks, from the time the demonstrations began until about midway through the process, giving some amount of power, recognition, support and favor to the protesters.

One can clearly understand why the people of Bahrain became so fired up and inspired, watching what just took place in Egypt. Transiting Mars in Aquarius was passing directly over the natal Mars of Bahrain during this time.

The Bahrain demonstrations also began while the Sun and Mars are in Aquarius, but in this case the duo has joined Neptune, Chiron and Mercury in late degrees of Aquarius. By Sunday February 20 when Mercury, Mars and Neptune make a triple conjunction (effectively lasting for four or five days) from Feb 18 to Feb 23, there will be a tidal wave of potent energy massing in the heavens, that can only be described as fast-moving, hard-hitting waves of the ocean or waves of emotion that characterize this three-planet convergence.

Geodetic Chart for Bahrain:

Don’t expect the people of Bahrain to settle down any time soon. The Mars transit through Aquarius and Pisces has produced a series of hard-hitting aspects to Bahrain’s natal chart, leaving almost no planet untouched. Mars can be relentless, driven by the sheer power and force of anger and resentment, built up over many years of their people being marginalized and excluded from achieving power in this nation’s economic, social and political system. The majority of Bahrain’s natal planets are in fixed signs, and with all four of the geodetic angles also in fixed signs, there is an almost unyielding resistance to change imposed by its ruling force.

Meanwhile, through February and March, Jupiter and Saturn (in opposition for the world in Aries and Libra) target Bahrain’s Chiron/Uranus opposition in Aries/Libra, indicating a real tug-of-war situation. The natives are restless, for sure. Some of this restlessness is described by Bahrain’s natal Uranus in Libra in the 2nd House (geodetically) that paints a picture of an uprising of the masses (Uranus) who are asking for equality and justice (Libra) in economic opportunity (2nd House). The response from governing forces and law enforcement (Saturn’s transit to Uranus) is suppression by any means, including violence resulting in death. For the next several months the transit of Saturn presses on Bahrain’s Uranus, not completing its passage until July 2011.

But 2011-2013 also bring the arrival of Neptune and Chiron to Bahrain’s chart, offering tension producing squares to the nation’s Moon/Saturn opposition to its own Neptune. The watery Neptune can easily erode or dissolve Saturn’s earthy, structural form and with the many repetitive passes of Neptune over Saturn (Bahrain’s government rulers), the Moon (Bahrain’s citizens including the families of its rulers) and Neptune (wealth from oil and/or tourism) one can only wonder what will remain of the present structure of this nation once Neptune’s passage is complete.

Ophiuchus, the 13th Sign

The Constellation of Ophiuchus

The Constellation of Ophiuchus

Asklepius, the Greek God of Healing through Dreams was the subject of an in depth article that I penned on Dream Interpretation Using Astrology and Myth in the Feb/Mar 2011 issue ofThe Mountain Astrologer.  Greek myth tells us that because Asklepius was able to literally bring people back from the dead, he was killed by Zeus with a thunderbolt.  Later, remorseful Zeus placed Asklepius in the sky as the image Ophiuchus, the Serpent Bearer.  Sandwiched in-between Scorpio and Sagittarius, barely touching the ecliptic, stands a giant serpent holder…a giant man in the sky, the image of Ophiuchus.  The serpent represents the Kundalini and the double helix of the DNA. And of course, serpent symbolism can be found all over the ancient world as a complement or consort to the Age of Taurus motifs liberally shown in places where the bulls and the horns of bulls are seen, and snakes are also present. During the era that the signs of Gemini and Taurus rose (approximately 6,000 to 4,000 years ago) the stars of Scorpio and Sagittarius were on the western horizon, including the sign in the middle: Ophiuchus. Testaments to these signs as guiding beacons are the numerous emblems carved in stones, painted on fresco walls and left as bas-reliefs by our predecessors.  Especially noteworthy is the emblem of the snake wrapped around the healing rod caduceus as the identifying cult symbol for the followers of Asklepius (Ophiuchus) at this time. And, that emblem has endured through time.  A descendant of Asklepius is Hippocrates, considered the father of modern medicine, and the caduceus symbol of serpentine healing power can be seen all over the world in hospitals, healing clinics, ambulances and everywhere people go to attempt to obtain healing cures for all types of disorders and illness.

The 13th sign is somewhat obscured from view and is not generally included in the zodiac of twelve signs that astrologers generally use. This may be due to the fact that visible from the ecliptic are only the feet of Ophiuchus (see star diagram above) with the rest of his body towering above the constellations and not contained within the rest of the zodiac.  In fact, one foot of Ophiuchus is smashing the Scorpion’s claws while the other foot is where the Archer’s arrow is aimed. Nevertheless, astrologers definitely know it is there, and I for one, have been an advocate for including the interpretation of Ophiuchus in people’s charts ever since I first learned of his existence from the lectures and articles of astrologer Robert Hand, some thirty years ago. In other words, if a person’s horoscope contains many points in late Scorpio and early to mid Sagittarius, then they are indeed “born” under the influence of Ophiuchus, and the healing wisdom of Asklepius and Chiron is inherent in that person’s repertoire of opportunities, abilities and influences in life.

Because Chiron the centaur is a recent addition to our solar system, located in an altogether different sector than the rest of the body of centaurs which are located beyond the orbit of Pluto, and because he was the god-father and mentor to Asklepius (Ophiuchus), I have come to proclaim Chiron as the ruler of the 13th sign. This Ophiuchus constellation takes up almost a half of each of the signs mentioned earlier (Scorpio and Sagittarius).  A great deal of Scorpio symbolism for healing, depth, penetrating beneath the surface (including journeys to the unconscious realm) and transformation are all related to Ophiuchus.  As for Sagittarius? The sage, the interest in philosophy and the burning desire to know the meaning of life are also contained in the mysteries of Ophiuchus and its serpent-kundalini energy source.

NOTES FROM THE ROAD

BAHIA KINO, SONORA, MEXICO

We arrived in Kino Bay, our second visit here, on a balsamic moon, just before a solar eclipse. Balsamic moons tend to be quiet times. I think there is no quieter place on the planet than this small little fishing village on the Sea of Cortez, which was just what we were looking for. It was early evening, the Sun had just set with the new Venus Star in Capricorn. Though we wouldn’t be able to see Venus in the evening sky for some weeks now, we knew it was there, marking a significant passage from morning star to evening star. Then Jose says: “there’s a very bright planet just getting ready to set, within an hour or two. What’s that?” I excitedly replied, “if it’s bright and it’s not Venus, it’s got to be Jupiter.” Sure enough, it was. So, even though we would not get to enjoy the dazzling brilliance of Venus on our trip, Jupiter would be there in her place.

Kino Sunset

We have an unobstructed view of sky and sea. The little island straight across the water from where we are camped (called Alcatraz) is where the pelicans and many other species of birds and fish that inhabit this place hang out, and Jupiter is setting just above and behind it.

From our vantage point, just south of Alcatraz island, the bright orange ball of winter sun is setting, now fully visible just to the north of the island. Had we been here a week or two ago, or at solstice, the sunset would not have been visible, still remaining at its most southerly point. Daily now, we are able to see the sun creep north, bit by bit, and are simply amazed to see just how fast it is making its way back north toward Tiburon Island, the larger of the two islands facing Kino Bay.

.

Wednesday morning I spent whiling away the hours observing the flight pattern of pelicans and the throat and neck motions of egrets passing by. Everything moves so slow here – time is not an issue. And that’s how it is on this little slice of heaven on the Sea of Cortez, facing Alcatraz Island.

There is nothing but silence here all day, truly one of the quietest places I’ve ever been.

Pelican Country

Although twice a day there is a whirlwind of activity with Chevy pick-up trucks loading and unloading the fishing boats into the bay. A risky enterprise with the kind of trucks they have. No fancy 4-wheel drives, these trucks are old and weathered and their tires spin out and burn tons of rubber, making it up the steep, rocky pier that is just adjacent to our campsite here at Islandia Marine Park. To the south of us is the town’s fishing pier. The boats come in, clean the loads of fish, and deliver them to the local fish market, just behind us a block or two. The wives and children all come down to the pier and watch the fishing boats come back in each night. It’s a small, simple and traditional life, something these men have been doing since they first arrived. It is not what you would call a gigantic industry, but it is the town’s main livelihood.

That, and tourism. But in the last two years, the turistas have stayed away, partly due to the economy and partly due to the drug cartels in Mexico. Robberies have become more of an issue in recent times, but the locals take these thefts very seriously. Today, the local gendarmes arrived to scope out the place. The kids who steal risk a lot to rip someone off. They get two to three years imprisonment for robbery, with no chance of early parole. The locals are hurt when tourists are robbed, so they show no lenience.

There are two Kinos – Kino Viejo and Kino Nuevo. Viejo is where we’re staying – the old Kino where the locals live and work. The new Kino, a couple of miles north of here is where most of the gringos hang out in their million dollar RVs or homes they’ve built along the waterfront. That part of town rocks all winter long. But like every city which has a twin, there is the kind of rivalry between the two that helps reinforce for people why they’ve chosen the one they’re part of. Here in Old Kino, it’s more authentic and much more laid-back. This is true. I haven’t been this laid back in a long time. In the new Kino, things are brighter and shinier, and more expensive and trendy. We are camped between two fairly long-time frequenters of Kino, and they are filling us in on all the local gossip. You get to know the locals pretty well at this end of town.

Tiburon Island, just across from Kino Bay, is the largest island in Mexico. The Seri Indians, the original inhabitants of Kino, have been given stewardship of the island.

Shells of Kino Bay

Most of the days we were here the weather was perfect – sunny, warm, windless, in the 70 degree range. Not bad for January. But for two days, when a storm dumped tons of rain on California and rain and snow in Arizona, we got hit with 50 mph winds (which felt more like 100 mph) but if you can trust the internet weather, it said 50mph. It felt like we were actually in a hurricane. Our camper was rocking all day and night.

Just after the new moon solar eclipse, the crescent moon and Jupiter were in such close proximity in the evening sky, hanging out and setting just over Alcatraz. What a sight. Of course, Orion and the Pleiades were straight overhead each night as well. It makes you really appreciate having a clear and unobstructed view of the sky, watching this night action. I’d trade this in for city lights any time.

Signing off in Kino Bay – January 25, 2010 – Arielle & Jose

The Movie Avatar

We saw the movie Avatar on Dec. 30 to put us in a great great space for the Dec 31 lunar eclipse, the theme of which was to send love around the planet.  The movie not only helped for the lunar eclipse, but lingered for many days. It’s the first time EVER that my husband said about a movie, “I want to see it again.  Soon.”  Watching congress spit and spew and barf and release their toxic dump on our president, with the media right there reporting every gross and indecent act, certainly doesn’t help keep us in a loving space.  My work prevents me from totally disconnecting from mainstream news, to keep up with planets phases, etc.  But I seriously question what the purpose of all this hyperactive reporting of all things nasty has done to our society and young ones also.  At least some of us remember times in life when it wasn’t always like that.  Avatar is the perfect pre-2012 movie to counteract the nonsense of the real 2012 movie that Hollywood churned out in their formulaic disaster genre.   (Really, Hollywood, if you want to focus on disaster, there’s so many real live ones happening daily that you could report about.)  For instance, there was just a huge disaster in Haiti — a real one.  It’s good to see the media shift gears and get behind that and also view the hundreds, perhaps thousands of healing and love stories that are right now pouring forth from that land.   2012, as I see it,  requires a radical shift in the way business is conducted and people interact when careful consideration is given to every thought, word and deed.  I’m thrilled for James Cameron that he put together the right message in such a way that young people can totally get behind and that it is outgrossing just about everything else that’s ever been filmed.  To this I say — James, you deserve every Oscar and every other award that’s possible. Keep them coming.

THE ASTROLOGER’S PRAYER

Traditionally, the oath of office is administered by a new president just after 12:00 noon, EST in Washington, DC, every four years on January 20, following an election year. This is written in the U.S. Constitution. Be that as it may, and though the tradition has been faithfully executed over many a presidency, astrologers around the world were praying that Obama delay the delivery of his oath of office as 44th president of the United States to some time after 12:30 EST that day. Why? Because at the 12:00 hour, the Moon would be located at 29° Scorpio—and remain there until 12:30, when it would then enter the sign of Sagittarius. The Moon at 29° Scorpio, Void of Course and in a sign of its weakness, would seemingly have two possible outcomes: 1) when the Moon is V/C, it is said that “nothing comes of the event” or in simpler terms, what is begun does not come to fruition or completion, 2) With the Moon (the all-giving mother and nurturer) in a sign of its detriment (Scorpio) and in the 7th House, partnership alliances and relationships in general would be severely tested. In my talks around the country about this subject, I also asked audiences to visualize or meditate upon a later time for the oath, feeling much better about our new president saying those important words that would officially begin his term with the Moon in Sagittarius, a high-minded, lively spirited sign with a friendly and optimistic approach to relationships both domestic and foreign.

And so, while witnessing the misspoken words uttered at 12:05 by the new president, who seemingly stumbled at the recital, we all reacted with shock. I’m thinking, this is a man (Obama) who eloquently spoke for over a year to audiences, with such great oratory, without looking at a single note, with such confidence and clarity—how can it be that he would stumble over these 35 little words? Only later did I (and apparently the rest of the world) learn that Obama did indeed recite the words in proper sequence. It was his prompter, Supreme Court Justice Roberts, who was clearly in error. So, Obama took it upon himself to repeat the Presidential Oath once again, approximately 31.5 hours later, so that there could be no question that he was indeed the President of the United States. What kind of cosmic joke was this? We have to look to the cosmic trickster, Mercury, who was retrograde on the day of Inauguration, for the answer to that. You know, Mercury, the planet that when retrograde, we’re all warned about signing documents and making legally binding statements, as they have a tendency to go haywire and the message does not reach its destination or gets railroaded along the way.

The Question of the Oath on Inauguration Day

Of course, the oath being administered twice has never happened. But, how ironic that so many astrologers were putting out the word in advance that the oath be delayed until after 12:30. So, at 7:35 pm EST on January 21, a second swearing in occurred, giving us the Sagittarius Moon we were all so hopeful of. So, the question that’s been posed to me for several weeks now, is:

“Arielle, which chart are you using for the Presidency? The first oath or the second oath?” As it turns out, the astrologers have been weighing in on this matter for several weeks now. The consensus which has been agreed upon and the one that I am prepared to accept, is that the U.S. Constitution states that the Presidency occurs at 12 noon EST, no matter when the oath is actually taken. So I go with 12 noon, understanding that there was a perfect solution to redeeming the pre-ordained ill-fated moment of the first swearing-in, by getting a chance to do it again, correctly.

The Void-of-Course Moon—What About It?

So, what’s the deal with the Void of Course Moon anyway? Does it really matter? Conventional astrological wisdom or tradition states this about the Void of Course (v/c) Moon:

“When the Moon is v/c, actions that are taken somehow always fail of their intended or planned results.” Though events may not turn out as anticipated, the end result need not be unfortunate. The last aspect made by the moon to a planet before it went v/c is what seems more relevant. The last aspect made by the moon on Obama’s day of inauguration was a square to Neptune on the eve of the important event. This speaks to the sweeping wave of humanity, ‘round the world, and the nearly 2 million joyously tearful people present at the swearing in who were riding that mystical, magical, Neptunian wave.

A Comparison between Oath #1 and Oath #2

I’ve been playing with the actual time the oath of “I Do” is stated for the past several presidencies, but since they are usually within moments of 12 noon, there hasn’t been enough difference to matter between the two times, usually a mere few moments. But, if we are to assume that Oath #2 is as significant for the Obama presidency as was Oath #1, then there are some points to consider from that moment that differ greatly from the first one.

Obama Oath of Office #1

In Chart #1 the Sun is at the zenith, a position basically associated with royalty, leadership and the sovereign of the nation, the most likely reason that hour was chosen to begin with for Presidents to use. This puts Obama, himself a Sun ruled Leo, squarely in the seat of executive power, no mistake. This same Sun is flanked by Mercury and Jupiter. Mercury is retrograde, so close to the Sun, it is referred to as combust. This is the day of the “Mercury Star,” a pattern created by Mercury and Earth in their orbits around the Sun, which occurs approximately three times a year, and is quite auspicious. Jupiter, the planet associated with high rank, the justice system, expansion and opportunity, in such close relationship to the Sun, also bodes well for the new leader.

Obama Oath of Office #2

Obama Oath of Office #2

In Chart #2, the Sun, planet of light and consciousness, has long since set below the western horizon of Washington, placed in the 6th House of service, duty and a strong work ethic. These are all issues which Obama is committed to, by and large, anyway. But it does render his executive authority somewhat more diminished than the clearly visible radiance of the Solar light that is contained in Chart #1. It also changes the rising sign from Taurus to Virgo, making the chart ruler of the Virgo-ruled Ascendant, that afore-mentioned trickster the retrograde Mercury, a considerable handicap for a chief executive to step into. No surprise there, however, as the country and its leaders are well aware of the handicapped position the country is in at this time. But it also raises questions about the new president’s ability to get the support he needs in order to get the job done properly. Furthermore, although the Moon’s position has changed to the more favorable sign of Sagittarius, it is now squaring Venus, Saturn and Uranus, from the get-go. Once the celebrations are over, there are many important issues to tackle and the squares seem to show us, early on, that in terms of getting a working cabinet going, it’s going to be an uphill climb for Obama, with many sudden stops and starts.
